Thursday, July 29th  the World Championships was officially opened by Her Royal Highness Princess Benedikte, Patron   for the Danish Sports Organization for   the Disabled.
The Princess came in o the Show Hall in a coach drawn by two horses. In her opening speech the princess stated that she is very delighted to see that so many countries are participating because it shows that riding is a growing sport for disabled persons and also that the standards have become very high.
She underlined that riding is a very important activity in the daily life for many disabled persons, because of the training and the possibility to be active in an equal way. And not least because of the pleasure!
At the Opening Ceremony the 28 participating nations marched into the hall, each represented by a rider on a horse and another member of the team carrying the sign with the name of the country.
The Danish rider, Ida Andersen, spoke on behalf of all the riders. There were also short speeches by the Lord Mayor of Aarhus, Flemming Knudsen, and the President of the Organizing Committee, Sv. A. Birck Jakobsen.
Then followed a show with dressage, quadrille, and ten coaches drawn by the small Norwegian horsetype, the ”Fjordhest”.
The show was closed by the Danish grade I rider, Brita Falkensten Andersen. She showed a Kür programme with grade II elements… [Brita rode Midlands Carousel in the Atlanta Paralympic Games, 1996, and is featured in the painting on Riders un Ltd home page].
